The Exchange Museum will stage a cultural fair and open day today from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Exchange Museum, Spry Street, in the city.
The Exchange Museum is a hidden gem as its exhibits are fully interactive and it boasts of hosting the island’s history of trade, education, business, the development of currency throughout the years, and freemasonry a topic that is still taboo on the island. The event was created to give locals and visitors the opportunity to see, discover and be educated while having fun with the family about some of the island’s history.
As part of the day’s festivities, there will be guided tours of the Museum, the Barbados Police Service Band, who will be making a special appearance and calypsonian Colin Spencer will also be performing at the event. Additionally, brief talks will be given by some Masons about Freemasonry in Barbados.
There will also be a number of activities for the kids including face painting and a heritage treasure hunt within the building and craft station. Vendors selling locally made products as well as the Barbados Museum’s genealogy group will be present to give tips and information to persons about conducting family research. All are invited. (PR)
