As the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation (BEF) is celebrating its tenth edition of the $20 Challenge, it is highlighting some of the former participants who demonstrated strong entrepreneurial spirit.
Today the spotlight falls on Kayla Parris, a Champion in the inaugural $20 Challenge’s Community Summer edition. That first effort was done in collaboration with the Optimist Clubs of Barbados for the 2021 Governor’s Flagship Program – Igniting The Entrepreneurial Mindset.
Kayla, a member of the Progressive Optimist Club, teamed up with Jade-Amor Grant to create Pamper Me Please, which featured two brands – Navina Fleur and Azala by Kyla Rose – specialising in hair care and natural skincare respectively.
Pamper Me Please was awarded the Spirit Of The $20 Challenge and Kyla received an honorable mention for Azala by Kayla Rose.
Parris, currently a third-year University of The West Indies, Cave Hill Campus student, described the immersive experience as not only educational, but transformational.
“I did not expect it to be so informative. Different presenters gave tips and tricks, as well as highlighted the pros and cons of business activities. I am studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance, so a lot of what I learned in the $20 Challenge comes up in my studies.” she said.
The budding entrepreneur intends to use the knowledge she has gained from her studies, coupled with skills gained from the Challenge, to further develop her business.
