Barbados’ Crime Prevention Specialist Inspector Stephen Griffith has issued a warning to young women to be careful with their drinks while at parties.
“Be absolutely careful. Do not trust not even your friend. You might be that person’s friend, but they might not be yours,” he added.
His comments followed the circulation last weekend of a viral video of a young lady seen naked on the south coast.
While it has been confirmed that the young woman is undergoing medical help, the senior cop is warning ladies who may be out partying to be very selective about who they trust with their drinks and food.
Griffith was speaking on the sidelines of a Safety And Security Training Workshop on Tuesday, held for tourism stakeholders at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel.
“To the females, I don’t want you to find yourselves in a predicament because you still have to walk the streets of Barbados and we are a small society. People will point fingers and you may be embarrassed for the next 20 years,” he cautioned.
Griffith said now is not the time to be reckless: “I’m not saying that happened to her, but this is not the kind of time or age to be reckless with anything that is going into your stomach.”
“I want to urge you females to take your drink with you if you are going to the bathroom or throw it away and get a fresh one when you come back.”
Also addressing the issue of drugging at parties was Chief Executive Officer of Supreme Counselling Shawn Clarke.
“We have to be selective of who we trust, even though some people may pretend to be friends, but they may have some kind of negative in their mind for you and may [want] to do you harm or damage,” he told Barbados TODAY. “You have to be cautious.” He also urged males to be mindful as well during party time. “I know a lot of people are focusing on females but I really want to send that appeal to both genders because it can happen to males as well,” he added.
