Barbados’ two fastest men in the 400m, Jonathan Jones and DeSean Boyce, have successfully advanced to the finals of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, setting up an exciting head-to-head competition.

Jones, the national record-holder for Barbados and the first Bajan athlete to achieve a sub-45s time, secured a second-place finish in the first semi-final held in El Salvador on Tuesday.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games 400m bronze medallist equalled his season-best time of 45.70s to finish behind Martinique’s Giles Biron (45.05s), but ahead of Gamali Felix (45.82s) from the Dominican Republic.

Boyce, on the other hand, cruised to a time of 46.29s to place third in a race won by Lidio Feliz of the Dominican Republic (46.13s) and second-place Grenada’s Michael Joseph (45.90s).

The 21-year-old Boyce, who is fine-tuning his preparation for this year’s World Athletics Championship, is just the second Barbadian athlete, behind Jones, to run below the 45-second mark when he clocked a Personal best 45.85s in May.

Also competing on Tuesday, four-time National 800m champion Sonia Gaskin ran in the women’s 800m semis. (RT)
