He was tightlipped about what had occurred at the airport that caused the plane to be grounded, amid reports that there was a bomb scare aboard the aircraft. In a terse statement about the security breach, Bourne spoke only of the “incident of a security-sensitive nature on one of our departing aircraft” for which airport officials “immediately implemented our published security protocols”. Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce also described the incident as a security breach and, like Bourne, offered no specifics. “The Barbados Police Service received a report of an incident at the Grantley Adams International Airport where there was a security breach. We responded to that report. Persons from my department – trained persons – responded to the situation. “We conducted searches at the airport, a plane was searched, and because of that we are currently continuing to investigate the matter,” the police chief had said.
