Prime Minister Mia Mottley is taking a 10-day break, starting Saturday.
She will be travelling during that time, she said on Friday afternoon during a press conference at Ilaro Court.
“I am actually taking leave to get some rest for 10 days. It has been rough. I didn’t take any time before the elections, I didn’t take any time after the elections. I have been going non-stop,” Mottley said, pointing out that the only break she got was a few days in early July 2021, following the death of her brother Warren Mottley on June 29.
The Prime Minister said she was scheduled to take two full weeks, but that was cut short by a few days so that she could travel to Washington for “critical” meetings with some US officials, including Senator Bob Menendez, on important matters.
During her absence, Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw will be the acting Prime Minister.
Mottley, who said that during her absence she will still be “engaged if there is any reason to”, is expected to return to Barbados on September 8. (MM)
