Producer of Cocktails and Comedy Simon Alleyne said the opportunity arose when the organizers of Barbados House Montreal were in Barbados and were impressed with the talent from Steve Garnes, Jason Carmichael, and himself. “They booked Cocktails and Comedy to be a part of the entertainment for them on November 11th, 2023. While we are in Montreal, we intend to visit a few stand-up comedy clubs to get a feel of the comedy scene and opportunities for collaboration,” he said. Alleyne has been building the Cocktails and Comedy brand and has regular shows at both The Sipping Rook, Dreadhop Brewing and The Mill and Co three times a month. To this end, he notes that there is an increasing appetite for stand-up comedy in Barbados. “There is a growing interest in Bajan stand-up comedy not only in Barbados but across the diaspora. People are looking for alternate sources of entertainment beyond Soca for their corporate functions and events. This places Cocktails and Comedy in a strong position in the market as we have established our brand of comedy over the past three years. We are truly grateful and inspired to continue offering good comedy and we have already secured a local corporate booking to perform at a Christmas Gala,” he said. Alleyne believes the future for Cocktails and Comedy is bright as he is planning a major comedy show in 2024.
