During a ceremony held at the Barbados Fire Academy in Arch Hall, St Thomas, Chairman of the Barbados Fire Service Association (BFSA) Corrie Bridgeman took centre stage to unveil the handbook which provides insight into the experiences of fire officers on the job. He explained the vision behind the handbook, emphasising its focus on showcasing the dedication of BFS members. โWe want readers to have a more intimate understanding of what fire officers go through daily,โ he said. Acknowledging the collaborative effort that brought the handbook to fruition, Bridgeman extended gratitude to the sponsors and his committee whose contributions made the project possible. The publication concentrates on three key areas: fire prevention, safety protocols for fire officers and the public, and an exploration of the daily trials impacting the health of fire officers. While the online launch of the handbook is yet to take place, Jamal Forde, a former fire officer and a driving force behind the initiative, envisions the release of both hard copy and online versions next year. In his address, Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard commended the BFSA for the remarkable initiative. โThis book launch marks a significant step in our commitment to spread the message of prevention and mitigation,โ he stated, highlighting its importance in redefining the BFSโ mission and goals, serving as a crucial tool in focusing efforts on prevention. โThis move underscores the commitment of the Barbados Fire Service to make vital safety information easily accessible to the public.
