Activity at the Kick ‘em Jenny undersea volcano, north of Grenada, has returned to normal, University of the West Indies seismologists said Thursday.
And, while the alert level remains yellow, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) said there is no need for Barbadians to take any action at this time.
But DEM Director Kerry Hinds has urged the public to continue to follow the emergency agency, and the Barbados Government Information Service’s various media platforms for updates.
Between 11:14 p.m. on February 9 and 3 a.m. on Sunday, an increase in seismic activity at the submarine volcano was recorded. That activity has subsided in magnitude and frequency to almost a complete stop since then.
There are currently four seismic stations monitoring Kick ‘em Jenny. In 2018, there was a period of high-level activity in the undersea volcano that was not followed by an eruption. There was a similar occurrence between April 11 and June 5, 2020.
Seismologists and disaster management agencies here and throughout the region continue to monitor the volcano. (BT/BGIS)
