It added that it looks forward to the completion of the works and will provide an update on reopening of the school in due course. “We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work together to provide a better physical environment for teaching and learning,” the ministry’s brief statement concluded. Following concerns raised three weeks ago by teachers and their representative, the Barbados Union of Teachers, about the school being plagued with mould, rats, cockroaches, wormwood, and inadequate bathroom facilities, the ministry announced tree-trimming and other emergency repairs beginning last week. They were to be completed in time for students to return to school this week. However, the repairs were interrupted by Hurricane Beryl and a tropical wave and have not yet been completed.
