An altercation between a security officer and a visitor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) on Wednesday evening has prompted an investigation by both hospital management and police.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. at the hospitalโ€™s main entrance.

โ€œThe matter is currently under investigation by both the hospitalโ€™s internal team and members of The Barbados Police Service, who responded to the scene,โ€ the hospital confirmed in a statement.

While details of the altercation remain unclear, the QEH emphasised its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all.

โ€œEnsuring the safety and well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff is our top priority,โ€ the statement read, highlighting the crucial role of security personnel in this effort.

The hospital management pledged to review and enhance their procedures based on the investigationโ€™s findings.

โ€œAs part of our standard process, we will carefully assess the findings of the internal investigation and take any necessary actions to enhance our protocols and training to ensure the highest standard of service and safety,โ€ the QEH stated.

The hospital gave an assurance that it was dedicated to providing a โ€œsafe and welcoming environment for all those seeking medical care, visiting loved ones, or conducting businessโ€. The statement also emphasised the QEHโ€™s ongoing commitment to โ€œexcellence in healthcare delivery and securityโ€.

The QEH has promised full cooperation with โ€œlaw enforcement and relevant stakeholdersโ€ throughout the investigation process. As the situation develops, it said it will provide further updates to the public โ€œas appropriateโ€.
