Defending champions Jamaica will take on the likes of Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force, Guyana, Windward Islands and hosts Leeward Islands at three venues – the historic Warner Park, Conaree Cricket Centre and St. Paul’s Sports Complex – with the tournament winding up on March 7. Labelling the current generation of emerging players as “phenomenal talent”, CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said the tournament would be a special affair. We are seeing phenomenal talent emerging from every corner of the region and watching these players battle it out on the field is going to be something special.” He continued: “With our international tours on the horizon and the impending ODI World Cup coming up, the timing couldn’t be better to showcase the strength of West Indies women’s cricket. “We are particularly excited for cricket fans in St. Kitts to see once again, some of our rising stars in action as the future of women’s cricket in the Caribbean looks brighter than ever.” The title-holders take on Trinidad and Tobago in their opening game at Warner Park with Barbados clashing with Guyana at Conaree and Windward Islands and Leeward Islands squaring off at St Paul’s. The two top teams after the five-round round-robin championship will contest the final. Last year, Jamaica edged out Guyana to clinch the title courtesy of a superior net run rate, after both teams ended on 16 points. Windward Islands (12) finished third while Barbados (12) were a surprising fourth, Trinidad and Tobago (4) and Leeward Islands (0) rounding out the standings.
