Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 327 The PriceCheck platform, which was created to help Barbadians compare prices of everyday goods in real-time, is being expanded into a digital marketplace to support micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), announced Acting Director of Consumer Affairs Bertram Johnson. This move is part of the government’s plan to digitise business operations, improve market access, and empower small businesses. Speaking during the parliamentary debate on the Appropriation Bill 2025, Johnson shared that since launching, PriceCheck has seen over 80 000 visitors and 730 000 hits in just four months, proving its value as a trusted tool for consumers. Recognising its potential, the government is adding a directory for MSMEs on the platform, allowing businesses to list their products and services for local and international customers. “Many small businesses operate in pop-up markets, and while visitors love their products, they often struggle to find them again,” Johnson said. “This new feature will ensure businesses maintain visibility, attract repeat customers, and expand their reach beyond physical marketplaces.” The enhanced PriceCheck platform will include: You Might Be Interested In Crystal Beckles-Holder, 2nd runner up in regional competition GUYANA: Body of child found after gold mine collapses Barbadians asked to help with return tickets for Haitians An online presence to make it easier for consumers to find and connect with MSMEs. Real-time product listings that can be updated by businesses. Integration with digital payment solutions for seamless transactions. Advanced data analytics to track consumer behaviour and market trends. Additionally, PriceCheck will integrate data from electronic point-of-sale (EPOS) systems, allowing accurate price tracking and ensuring consumers get the most up-to-date information on goods and services. By building on the existing infrastructure of PriceCheck, Johnson said the government is aiming to close the gap between traditional retail and e-commerce, creating a fully digitised marketplace for MSMEs to thrive. “This initiative is about more than just price tracking—it’s about building a digital economy where small businesses have the tools to compete effectively. We are ensuring that local entrepreneurs are not just surviving but growing in the digital age,” Johnson added.
