Seventeen injured in route taxi-pickup collision

Seventeen people sustained non-life-threatening injuries this morning following a collision between a route taxi and a pickup van at the junction of Belle Road and Barker Road, St Michael. The accident occurred around 8:40 a.m.

Among the injured were 16 passengers from the route taxi, including the driver, and one passenger from the pickup van. A medical doctor and eight emergency personnel from the Ambulance Service treated the injured at the scene.

Eight individuals were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, seven were sent to Fast Track at the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic, and two were treated at the scene and discharged. Medical personnel confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

According to police investigations, the route taxi was travelling from The City toward the Norman Niles Roundabout when the pickup van exited from Barker Road, resulting in the collision.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the District ‘A’ Police Station at 430-7242/430-7246. (SD)
