We made the commitment last year that the funds that come into the Ministry by any organisation, we would be in a position to trace where those funds went and directly what the funds contributed to,” he said. “Last year, when we received those funds we were able to support, through the Barbados Hospitality Institute, 15 persons who would have been training in work pertaining to housekeeping and so on. Most of those persons are either working or in the process of getting work… so you were able to directly contribute to empowering a family.” He revealed that Monday’s donation will go towards supporting a youth-focused reading programme. Humphrey said, “These funds will be used to …allow young people to be able to read and to have those skills that they can make a contribution to Barbados as well. So we are very thankful for this support. It goes directly to our work in the Ministry, and it will change lives in a real and meaningful way.” CIBC Caribbean’s Head of Country for Barbados, Kemar Polius, said the bank was committed to giving community support. “We at CIBC are exceptionally proud to partner with the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs. Going all the way back to COVID, we would have supported the Ministry in supporting the people in our community. This is exceptionally dear to us, as we are from this community and give back. So we are very proud to be part of this,” Polius said.
