The closure in May 2024 left many residents, especially the elderly, without easy access to essential services. However, during a press briefing at the St Michael facility on Thursday morning, Home Affairs Minister Wilfred Abrahams announced that counter services will resume from Friday. “We heard you… your frustration was my frustration . . . ,” the minister said, adding that he also personally depended on the services at that post office. Resident Jocelyn Gittens said she was pleased it was reopening: “Especially for the older folks…. People were making a lot of fuss about it… but at least it is back. I’m glad it’s back.” While full services like registered mail and parcel collection will still be at the General Post Office, residents can once again perform basic transactions.
