The 35-year-old of Mason Street, appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates Court and admitted to stealing the cases valued at $144 belonging to Celesce Halley between December 1 and 2. He also pleaded guilty to using the threatening words “I will stab you up if you come round me” with the intent to cause Halley to believe that unlawful violence would be used against her. Halley, the bar owner, reportedly left the establishment with the empty bottle cases unsecured at the back. The next day, she was informed by a neighbour that someone was on the property, leaving with the cases. Halley confronted the accused, and the two got into an argument during which Arthur used the threatening words, causing her to become fearful. She contacted the police. bt Magistrate Renee ordered Arthur, who had 21 previous convictions, to serve one year at Dodds Prison for the theft and convicted, reprimanded and discharged him for the verbal threat.
