ZR driver admits six traffic offences

A ZR driver initially attempted to plead guilty to eight traffic charges before admitting six offences and contesting the remaining two.

When Shaquille Ashane Scott was first called to the dock, he said, “Guilty for all, sir,” before any of the charges were read. Magistrate Jared Richards instructed the Weston, St James resident to return to his seat for the cases to be called later. 

Upon being called again, Scott admitted failing to comply with the ‘No right turn’ sign on Constitution Road; failing to indicate that he was turning right on that same road, either by extending his hand or using his indicator; stopping at an undesignated spot to let off passengers; and not wearing his identification badge on Tuesday.

He also admitted that, the following day, he stopped at an undesignated spot and did not proceed directly to the places included on his permit.

He denied driving on Constitution Road, which was not specified on his permit, and stopping less than ten metres from a corner on the same road.

The driver told the District ‘A’ Traffic Court that, while their permits allowed them to drive left onto Nursery Drive, when the new van stand was being built, they were told to continue straight onto St Michael’s Row.

“The permits were never changed, sir,” he told the magistrate.

“You see now why I told you to sit back down because you were going to plead guilty to all. So you have pleaded not guilty to two and those matters will go to trial. Please walk with your permits when you return,” the magistrate said before adjourning the cases until November 4.
