The Barbados Today Inc. is seeking an experienced editor with grit and vision to help guide its editorial team. This position requires keen interest in news, business, politics, culture, sports, entertainment, as well as educational and informative content. In addition to upholding the highest editorial standards, the successful candidate must be able to pursue and implement new, exciting ideas and strategies to strengthen and increase BT’s digital footprint.
THE ROLE
- Lead and manage a team of reporters, writers and photographers.
- Assign stories that cover breaking news, trending news and other developments of the day to engage BT’s audiences across various platforms.
- Design and implement coverage strategies to facilitate wide coverage of events.
- Formulate innovative and unique solutions to optimize routine news coverage.
- Writing and editing news stories and features for publication on the website or in BT’s print publications.
- Prepare work schedules and deadlines and encourage team members to meet targets to facilitate timely publication.
- Train and mentor members of the editorial team to develop high-level skills.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
- Three or more years of working experience in a newsroom.
- Creative, decisive and able to function under pressure.
- Have good organizational and time management skills.
- Meet deadlines and be flexible.
