Elegant Hotels Annual Golf Tournament has new king

Elegant HR Director Ian Gooding Edghill and Kim Griffith Lewis GM of Waves Hotel Spa presenting Minto with his first prize.

John Minto from Waves Hotel & Spa is the new king of golf of the Elegant Hotels fourth annual Golf tournament that climaxed at the Apes Hill Polo grounds in St James on Friday.

Minto, with a score of 34, easily dethroned last year defending champion Pat Mc Donagh of the Colony Club who did not crack the top 10 this year.

Finishing second was Chris Hartwell of Colony Club on a score of 31 and 16 on the countback.  Third was Stephon Daborn from the Tamarind Hotel with a score of 31. Finishing in fourth place was Jim Williams from Colony Club with 30.  Rounding off the top five was John Campbell also of the Colony Club with a score of 28 on the countback.

The prize for the best and highest placed female player of the tournament went to Jane Mc Pherson of the Tamarind Hotel. She finished in sixth position with a score of 28.

On hand to make the presentation to the winner and also to thank all the participants was Elegant HR Director and MP for St Michael West Central Ian Gooding Edghill.

Edghill took the opportunity to thank the groups’ general managers for their hard work and dedication for putting on another successful year of the competition.

“This year we had a total of 35 competitors taking part in the tournament. It is opened to guests of our West Coast properties namely Colony Club, Tamarind, Crystal Cove and the House.  This year we opened it up to Waves Hotel & Spa. Many of the players that took part are repeat guest to our hotels.  Some have played in all four tournaments to date, so we are very happy about this,” Khadjah Deshong Operations Support Officer of the Elegant group said.

She went on to state that what was particularly pleasing was the record number of females taking part in this year’s tournament. “We had a total of eight females and I’m very happy to note that three of them finished in the top 10.  Four years ago we came up with this idea of hosting a Golf Tournament for our guest, it was designed to give them something additional to do during their stay and it has grown by leaps and bounds. Some of the players have already registered for next year’s tournament.” (CH)
