Winning hearts at polo

The Corporate and Commercial Credit Division of Consolidated Finance Co Limited recently joined the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados (HSFB) and the Barbados polo fraternity to champion stroke prevention at “Different Strokes – The Polo Edition”.

Appreciative fans were treated to an exciting polo showdown between the aptly named Red Hearts and Blue Strokes teams at a sun-drenched Holders Polo Field in St James. As match play proceeded, HSFB volunteers provided patrons with free blood pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index) checks and distributed handy heart attack and stroke emergency wallet cards. Patrons likewise supported HSFB’s cause, participating in silent and live auctions and raffles to raise funds to support the charity’s stroke rehabilitation programme.

In presenting tokens of appreciation to the victorious Red Hearts team, President and CEO of Consolidated Finance Co Limited, Rolf Phillips, reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to HSFB national fight against NCDs (Non-Communicable Diseases), since “a healthier population can only contribute positively to Barbados’ economic recovery.” In his closing remarks, HSFB President, Dr Kenneth Connell thanked Consolidated Finance, the Barbados Polo Club, the board of directors and volunteers of the Foundation, and the many corporate entities which contributed to the success of the inaugural “Different Strokes” fundraising effort.

The afternoon’s proceedings climaxed with the special presentation of an Alejandro Moy masterpiece and plaque to Sir Charles “COW” Williams by Ambassador Gustavo Pandiani of the Argentine Republic in recognition of his outstanding lifetime contributions to the sport of polo in Barbados and Argentina.
