Sir Anthony Bryan passes away

Sir Anthony Bryan KA, owner and publisher of the island’s oldest newspaper, the Barbados Advocate, has died, the paper has announced.
In a notice on the company’s Facebook page,  the Advocate said he died this afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He reportedly had been ailing for an unspecified period.
Sir Anthony, a self-made businessman, also owned two radio stations, the Barbados Broadcasting Service – BBS 90.7 FM and Faith FM 102, from Dayrell’s, St George.
In 2017, he was awarded the country’s highest honour, the Knight of St Andrew, for his contribution to publishing, broadcasting and business.
Back in 2001, Sir Anthony received the Gold Crown of Merit (GCM) 2001 and in 2016,  the Companion of Honour (CHB). 
His publishing career began in magazines as owner of Crown Publishing Company. In 2000, he bought the Barbados Advocate from the Trinidadian conglomerate Ansa McAl, and formed Advocate (2000) Publishers. The paper marks its 125th anniversary in October.
