BWU calls on regional gov’ts to follow Barbados and settle LIAT dispute

The following statement was issued by the Barbados Workers’ Union:

The Barbados Workers’ Union has called on regional governments to follow the example set by Barbados to settle the LIAT dispute across the Caribbean.

Speaking on the heels of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s announcement to pay severance to terminated Barbadian LIAT employees to the tune of ten million dollars, BWU Deputy General Secretary Dwaine Paul said that while the resolution of the issue was a long time in coming, the BWU is happy to have fought steadfastly on behalf of the former LIAT workers.

Paul, also head of the BWU’s Industrial Relations Department, said the Union would be extending a hand of assistance where those former LIAT employees needed it through the BWU’s education programme.
