Magistrate Douglas Frederick is off the bench and now holds the post of Acting Public Counsel.
The judicial officer who has been presiding over the District ‘B’ (Boarded Hall) and the District ‘F’ Magistrates’ Courts located at St Joseph since June 2020, took up the position on Monday.
On Friday, after Magistrate Frederick’s final sitting, his staff held a fun and intimate farewell at which he was congratulated and told he would be missed.
“It was a pleasure working with you all,” he responded. “The reason why I was so reluctant to leave is because I like it up here and because of the team. The team here has proven to be very good . . . . Everybody has taken care of me and I am really appreciative of that.”
Back in August 2019, the magistrate, who then presided over the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, acted in the post of Chief Legal Officer at the National Housing Corporation’s (NHC) legal unit for a few weeks.
Frederick, who has been a magistrate since March 2006, at one time worked in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“I am still a magistrate, but I will be acting as Public Counsel. It is a new experience and I will put my best foot forward as usual. I am looking forward to the new
challenge and meeting those challenges,” he told Barbados TODAY.
