BDF’s Field Medical Team conducts full-scale exercise

From major head and body injuries, to burns and emergency c-sections, emergency personnel were busy with a mass causality situation on the grounds of the National Stadium Sunday morning.

Thankfully though, those situations were completely fictitious, serving as part of a full-scale training exercise conducted by the Barbados Defence Force’s Field Medical Team (BDF FMT).

The exercise, which began on Saturday following “an earthquake” that took place on Friday and caused serious destruction to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and widespread electrical and communication outage,  continued Sunday at the BDF FMT’s camp site at the National Stadium, Waterford, St Michael.

It involved members from multiple emergency departments, including the Barbados Cadet Corps and the Barbados YouthADVANCE Corps performing the role of casualties. (KC)
