An investigation is ongoing into a murder accused’s short-lived daylight escape from the Dodds prison in St Philip on Thursday. Once completed, a decision on the way forward will be determined. “I am awaiting the results of the full investigation and report, so all decisions made and measures taken are informed by fact and not knee-jerk [reaction],” Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams told Barbados TODAY on Friday afternoon. Police said after receiving the report around 3:45 p.m. that 21-year-old Tyreke Delandre Benskin escaped from the prison, a search of the general area and beyond was conducted. Within several hours of the prison break, police reported that Benskin was captured by law enforcers who were patrolling along Yorkshire Road, Christ Church. The escapee has been on remand for the February 2, 2020, stabbing death of 22-year-old Shakeem Holder. He was 17 years old at the time of the alleged murder. (EJ)
