The Embassy of Japan in Barbados is now accepting applications for the 2025 Japanese Government Scholarship.

The selected candidate will receive the scholarship from April 2025 to March 2027 for the spring enrollment or October 2025 to March 2027 for the autumn enrollment.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) opens the window of opportunity annually to Barbadians who seek higher academic degrees as research students at universities in Japan.

The scholarship programme seeks to support Barbadians interested in pursuing a master’s degree, doctoral degree, professional graduate course, or non-degree research study. The successful research student will receive a monthly stipend, paid tuition and one return ticket. The scholarship may cover six months of intensive preparatory research and Japanese language training, if required by the university. Applicants must be Barbadian nationals, born on or after April 2, 1990, possess at least a bachelor’s degree, and are motivated to pursue advanced studies in Japan. Additional application details are available in the enclosed leaflet and on the Embassy’s website: URL: https://www.bb.emb-japan.go.jp/files/100652796.pdf. Applicants should carefully read the information on the following MEXT website and download the application forms: URL: https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/smap-stopj-applications-research.html.
