NAPSAC champs hold motorcade

The motorcade travelled through several St James communities.

Over a month after capturing the boys’ title at the National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championships (NAPSAC), the Williams Industries West Terrace Tigers aren’t done celebrating just yet.

On Friday, scores of students and teachers alike took to the road to participate in a parade and motorcade in recognition of their title winning performances.

West Terrace also dominated the Patsy Callender Zone, winning both the boys’ and girls’ titles.

The motorcade left the school’s West Terrace, St James compound just after 9:30 a.m. and travelled through West Terrace Gardens, Oxnards, Thorpes and Redman’s Village, before ending at the offices of their main sponsor, CO Williams Industries in Warrens Industrial Park.

Physical education teacher, Roderick Harmon said the motorcade was being held to celebrate the children’s accomplishments.

“We are celebrating with the athletes for the 2024 NAPSAC Championship. As you know the boys would have carried away the title and it was kind of late in the term last term, so we decided that early this term we have this celebration in the form of a motorcade and when we get back we will also treat the children to some refreshments,” Harmon said.

“We want to showcase and we want to highlight the talents and the accomplishments of the children. When the children are doing well, we want to highlight that and not all of the negative, but we want to highlight and celebrate when they do well.”

Member of Parliament, Sandra Husbands, who took part in the celebrations, lauded the athletes for their outstanding contributions.

“I am here with the West Terrace Tigers and they did such an excellent job at the NAPSAC Games and I’m so very proud of the work that they’ve done. I want to be able to make sure that we can encourage our children to develop their skills in sports and that sports can take them to a new level and open career opportunities for them,” Husbands said.
