Alexander Young and Nathan Barrow emerged victorious when the Barbados Skateboard Association (BSA) held their Gromfest competition over the weekend.

Young won the Open division, with Shane Hackett placing second and Tarry Alleyne third.

Meanwhile, Barrow took home the top spot in the Under-16 division, with Young second and Aliya King finishing in third position.

President of the BSA, Adrian Bowen told Barbados TODAY that the event was held to give young inexperienced skaters some exposure.

“Gromfest is a developmental skateboard programme. The objective is to give the youth that we have skating on the island the best opportunity to skate and to get practice in a competition environment.

“In this year’s Gromfest we have 10 registered contestants; six in the Under-16 and then everybody can enter the Open. Skateboarding is for everybody and we have a wide range of age groups in our community, but Gromfest really is youth-focused,” Bowen said.
