Police, ministry probe threat made by parent at Hilda Skeene Primary

Police had to be called in at the Hilda Skeene Primary School this morning after a male parent went onto the compound and reportedly threatened a teacher.

The Ministry of Education confirmed in a statement this afternoon that the man entered the Ruby, St Philip school unannounced, “behaving in a manner that left teachers and students feeling threatened”.

“The Barbados Police Service was called in to contain the matter, while the principal locked the gate to cut off access to the school. Ministry officials and the Barbados Police Service are, at this time, cooperating with the principal and senior members of staff to bring a resolution to the situation,” it added.

Meanwhile, the school has been closed for the remainder of the day, and parents have been asked to arrange for their children to be collected, as the authorities complete their investigation.

The ministry appealed to members of the public not to attempt to enter school compounds without prior notification.
“Appointments must be made, permissions granted, and identification presented to gain access to school compounds,” it reminded.
