Asantehene concludes historic visit to Barbados; PM meeting among key engagements

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene of the Ashanti Kingdom, wrapped up his historic visit to Barbados today following two days of official engagements for the GUBA Investment Conference and Awards.The Ghanaian delegation was scheduled to depart early Thursday morning, bringing to a close the first-ever visit to Barbados by a reigning Asantehene and the first direct charter flight between Accra and Bridgetown.During the visit, the Asantehene attended a series of cultural and official events, including meetings with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and President of Barbados, The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason.The Prime Minister hosted His Majesty at Ilaro Court on Tuesday evening, where the two discussed the longstanding cultural and historical ties between Barbados and Ghana. In a brief statement posted on her official Instagram page, Mottley said she was honoured to welcome the traditional leader and highlighted the shared heritage that connects the Caribbean and West Africa.Wednesday’s schedule included the GUBA Foundation Walk, a diplomatic golf invitational, an address by the Asantehene at the UWI Cave Hill Campus, and the unveiling of the university’s new administration building. The visit concluded with the GUBA Awards at the Wyndham Grand in Bridgetown.This year marked the first time the GUBA Awards were held in the Caribbean.
