Barbados U17s edge T&T in opener

Barbados has made a winning start to its Concacaf Under-17 Men’s qualifying campaign in Trinidad and Tobago.

 

Playing in their opening Group A encounter on  Tuesday night, Barbados defeated the host country 1-0, thanks to a 75th-minute header from Adam King.

 

Trinidad and Tobago almost equalised late on, but were denied by Barbados goalkeeper Kaliq Lashley, who pulled off a brilliant save in the 85th minute to preserve the lead for the Tridents. Lashley delivered a solid performance in goal, recording four saves.

 

Speaking after the game, Trinidad and Tobago coach Randolph Boyce said his team played well, but was guilty of not finishing its chances. He believes the goal they conceded might have come from a lack of concentration, noting that   Barbados played with a level of physicality.

 

Barbados will be back in action against Sint Maarten on Saturday, Mexico on February 9 and Saint Martin on February 12.

 

Earlier in the opening game of the group, Saint Martin defeated Sint Maarten 3-0.
