Rock-thrower on bail after guilty plea

A 23-year-old St Michael man who admitted to throwing rocks at a house, damaging the building and a television set inside it, has been granted bail and will be the subject of a pre-sentence report.

 

Seth Ethan Nathaniel Griffith of Arthur’s Gap, Carrington Village, St Michael, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Deidre McKenna and pleaded guilty to damaging Jason Carter’s home and television on February 17.

 

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Vernon Waithe told the Oistins Magistrates’ Court that the complainant had a dispute with a man he knew as Barber over outstanding monies in respect of the sale of a cell phone, when the accused approached him with an object in his hand. The complainant armed himself with a piece of pipe and eventually left the scene. 

 

When he returned, he found the front window broken and the screen of his flat screen television damaged. Neighbours told him who was responsible, and the police were contacted. 

 

The complainant was taken on a street parade and identified the accused, who ran away but later presented himself at the police station and admitted to throwing the stones.

 

Denying that he owed any money, Griffith stated that he armed himself with the rocks after Carter threatened and began following him.

 

“He told me if I don’t pay he back the outstanding money by evening, he gine do me something,” the first-time offender said.

 

A pre-sentence report was ordered, and Griffith was released on $2 500 bail with surety and ordered to stay away from Carter.

 

The case will return to court on May 22.
