‘Empty grounds no problem’

Barbados Tridents captain Jason Holder

Even though it would be ideal to play in the presence of spectators if the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) does come off, Jason Holder, captain of reigning champions Barbados Tridents, says he wouldn’t mind playing without a fan base present.

Last week Friday it was reported on ESPNCricinfo about the possibility of the 2020 CPL happening without supporters or overseas professionals that are contracted to play with the various franchises.

Holder who led the Tridents to CPL glory last year said: “If that’s the case then that’s how I will have to deal with it. Ideally, you would love spectators but at the end of the day if it is not possible then we just have to get on with it.”

The former West Indies limited-overs captain told Barbados TODAY he missed playing cricket and has been working out to ensure he remains active.

“I am doing simple home workouts, just trying to stay active, it is not ideal but trying to make the most of the circumstances,” Holder said.

He added: “I’m really missing the game. This is my livelihood and something I’ve been doing professionally for the last 12 years.”

The ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) has brought a halt to global cricket as authorities seek to discourage mass gatherings at sporting and other facilities.
