Fallen tree damages home in The City

A family of eight is counting its blessings but has been left to tally losses after a tree crashed into their home at Sobers Lane in The City early this morning.

Hazel St Louis told Barbados TODAY that around 6 o’clock she was jolted from sleep.

She said: “I heard this noise, I thought it was thunder. But I didn’t really pay it any mind. I look through the window and I didn’t see anything.

But then I heard my sister-in-law and my mother keeping noise in the house so then I come out and I see the whole tree fall down on the house.”

The house was extensively damaged. “All of the side of the house mash up, we now have to assess the damage,” St Louis said.

Area MP Health and Wellness Minister Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic dispatched a representative to the area to assist the family.

A team from the Ministry of Transport and Works has been busy removing the tree, while crews from the Barbados Light and Power and telecommunications companies have been working to restore interrupted service to the area.
