Shameful fraudsters’ hijack ‘Adopt Our Familiies’

Alies Jordan

The Prime Minister’s Office moved to head off “shameful” fraudsters, keen to go door to door scamming people for the Adopt Our Families programme.

Criminals have reportedly visited homes in St. George purporting to be affiliated to Government, and claiming that they are assigned to collect funds for the programme, prompting the warning.

Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alies Jordan, issued the reminder that no one has been authorized to collect money this way.

Jordan said in a statement: “Government does not do business in such a manner, where there is no accountability”.

“It is regrettable that in these difficult times that persons are trying to defraud each other, and shame on those persons for attempting to do so”

An account has been set up at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street, to allow deposits to account number 1001193982. Donors are expected to email adoptafamily@pmo.gov.bb, advising of the deposit.

The Prime Minister’s permanent secretary expressed appreciation to individuals and companies who have supported the programme to date, and made an appeal to others who could assist to make a contribution by depositing funds to the FCIB account.
