Man shot by police in Greens

A man was shot by police during an incident at a bar in St George Saturday night, police say.

Shortly before 11 pm, police responded to Greens, St George after receiving a report that a man was armed with a firearm at Big Red Bar.

On arrival the man was identified and confronted. Police say they instructed the man to drop the weapon, which he refused and pointed the weapon in the direction of one of the officers.

The man was shot in the area of the abdomen by police. He was subsequently transported to the QEH for emergency medical attention. He underwent surgery and is said to be in stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
