Casheda is Baje To The World inaugural winner

Twenty-five-year-old Casheda Dottin became the inaugural winner of the ‘Baje To The World’ competition on Sunday

Dottin who rendered a gospel song garnered a total of 348 points which earned her first place in the competition. She walked away with the top prize of $10,000 as well as a recording and marketing contract valued at $10,000.

The youngest contestant, 14-year-old Trinity Clarke placed second with 346 points, after presenting a revised version of the song Caribbean Unity. Meanwhile, third place went
to Justin Taylor a.k.a Sunrock, who performed a hip-hop freestyle piece which earned him 321 points. Second and third placed winners won $5,000 and $2,500 respectively.
All contestants received a participation trophy and the other nine finalists received $500.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland, described the virtual final as a “wonderful presentation” and thanked all who worked behind the scenes to make it a reality and a success.

Minister Sutherland noted: “The vision of this ministry is to build a stable and cohesive society through the empowerment and full involvement of youth and communities in the social and economic development of Barbados.

“That’s the reason why amidst these challenges my team at the Ministry, and more specifically, the Community Development Department, have pushed to connect with you directly in your homes in your communities, through this ‘Baje To The World’ Show.”

According to the minister, the competition was designed to build a sense of community,
by offering a stage for Barbadians to showcase their unique gifts.

He promised that the next ‘Baje To The World’ would be bigger and better and encouraged the public to: “support this growing ecosystem of Barbadian talent to generate rich, social, cultural and economic benefits”.

Sutherland also pointed out that having a virtual final show in the midst of a pandemic “serves as validation and strong proof that we can do anything in the midst of any challenge”. (BGIS)
