Many pay respects to Brancker at viewing

The public viewing of the body of former Barbados cricketer, administrator and local businessman Rawle Brancker was held Wednesday at the Empire Cricket Club, Bank Hall, St Michael The late cricketer, who was a leftarm spin bowler and classy middle-order batsman, joined Empire as a 12-year-old schoolboy at Combermere School. Decades later he was named an honorary vice president and trustee of the Empire club.

He was instrumental in the renovation of the club’s facility.

Brancker toured England in 1966 with the West Indies team but never played a Test match.

After his playing days, he was also chairman of the Organising Committee for the ICC 2007 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.

Wednesday the “kiddie” cricketers of the Empire Club paid respect to one of their club’s finest who died on July 27 at age 83. Brancker’s body will also be at Cricket Legends today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. He will be buried on Friday. (IMC)
