World Of Work Training resumes for youth

The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector has resumed its World of Work Training in support of its Job Start Plus Programme that targets youth between the ages of 16 and 24.

This training, which started today, Monday, February 14, is being conducted in an online format, and over a two-week period. It is expected to conclude on Friday, February 25.

The half-day sessions will focus attention on workforce preparation and personal development skills.  This will be done via topics such as Goal SettingEffective CommunicationTeamwork, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Résumé Writing, and Interview Techniques and Skills.

Participants will also be exposed to a career planning tool, which will assist them in identifying their particular interests. Additionally, career advice will be provided to participants on the development of their individual career plans.

The training will culminate with a face-to-face closing ceremony, which is scheduled for Friday, February 25. Minister of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector, Colin Jordan, will deliver remarks and present certificates to the participants.

Job Start Plus is one aspect of the island’s National Youth Employment Programme.  It is designed for that cohort that is not in employment, education, or training.

As a public-private partnership, the programme is seeking employers associated with large and small businesses to provide guidance and work experience to young people that could lead to future employment opportunities and alleviate ‘youth in poverty.

In December 2019, Government rolled out the first set of its training for 60 young persons. This was held at the Labour Ministry’s headquarters in the Lecture Theatre, on the First Floor, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael.

For the past two years and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, over 700 young people have received training from the Ministry. (BGIS)
