Senator Thompson and family remember matriarch during farewell service

Senator Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Thompson, siblings and other members of her family, on Saturday celebrated the life of her mother Cynthia Pauline Thompson with a thanksgiving ceremony at the James Street Methodist Church.

The family was joined by President Dame Sandra Mason, Prime Minister Mia Mottley, members of both Houses of Parliament, former parliamentarians and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

In the little over two-hour long church service, those in attendance heard about the life of the 97-year-old “true matriarch” and a “woman of deep, deep faith.” She was also a veteran businesswoman who “loved people” and was loved by many.

Senator Thompson, who delivered the appreciation, revealed that her mother, who passed away on January 28, was part of the Wind rush generation. She described her as an “elegant dresser, a fashionista, she loved hats” and one who had “a lot of spunk in her. She was a woman of very firm convictions”.

Her mother, Senator Thompson said, loved her children, her “grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly … mothered many other people” and was a great cook.

“She advised many people, mentored many people, she reached out to many people but mummy was also very protective of her children,” Senator Thompson said of her mother who was later interred at the Westbury Cemetery. (BT)
