Stuart presents his book to Barbados Library Service

Debut author Kemar Stuart presented a copy of his book Alternate Views: Barbados Economic Road to Republic to the Barbados National Library Service in Independence Square, Bridgetown on Monday.

The young economist who is the Director of Business Development, Finance and Investment at Stuart and Perkins Caribbean said the book sets the scene for what led to Barbados heading to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“My book sets the scene for Barbados’ plunge into the arms of the IMF and the resultant economic programme which continues to impact on Barbados. In the book, I not only outline the issues that arise, but I also offer real-time suggestions on the way forward and how the country reaches its financial goals,” he said.

The Democratic Labour Party candidate for the City of Bridgetown in the last general election said that his book covers the themes of Default and Debt Restructuring; the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation Plan (BERT); the Barbados Optimal Saving Scheme (BOSS); Barbados Economic Sustainability Transformation (BEST); the Barbados Welcome Stamp; Pension Reform; Financial Sector Growth; and the Debt Settlement Bill 2021.

Stuart said that the book which took him eight months to research and write was released on February 2 this year.

“This educational and highly informative publication is an excellent tool for budding economists, politicians, public servants, and the general public who desire an understanding of Barbados’ economy in this modern era. A lot of research went into creating this book to ensure that the data is accurate. But not only did I want to present information, I also wanted to go the extra step to ensure that I offer suggestions that if implemented can assist Barbados with our economic goals. This book is not another academic book, but it is a book that seeks to be a roadmap to assist Barbados to achieve their economic goals,” he said.

The twenty-seven-year-old has had overwhelming response to his book thus far with many prominent persons having purchased the text.

“The response to my book has been great. So many people have bought the book from all walks of life. But I am seeking to have a full launch later this month where I will be explaining the thought process behind the book and my findings in detail. Persons can follow my social media accounts by typing in Kemar Stuart for more details on the launch,” he said. (PR)
