Pinelands inspired love for administration

Roberta Trotman is an honourary member of Pinelands Creative Workshop. The owner of Virtual Solutions said her initial involvement in the organisation was through her sister and now CEO of the organisation, Sophia Greaves.

Trotman said that her sister had told her about a programme the organization was offering which included a certificate course at Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (BIMAP).

“Honestly, I have never been an official member of Pinelands. My experience with Pinelands Creative Workshop came through my sister and the interaction with other members. My sister told me that there was a programme which included a certificate course at BIMAP.

My experience with Pinelands has shaped my love for learning and administration,” she said.

Trotman who is a former student of the St. James Secondary School [now Frederick Smith Secondary] said that she would have benefitted from being a part of the programmes which allowed her to have her first administrative job.

“I have benefitted from the foundation of learning I obtained at Pinelands Creative Workshop. From that learning I would have been able to land my first administrative job. Since then, I am the founder of Virtual Solutions. I provide online business services for small business owners empowering them to succeed in business by taking care of their administrative, technical and social media needs,”she said.

The businesswoman said that although she has never been a part of a dance or theatrical production, she has had a backstage view of all the things that have occurred in the organisation through the past 44 years and the consistency Pinelands Creative Workshop has shown throughout her life.

So much so that she is now teaching a Digital Transformation class at the Marcus Garvey Institute as part of the Personal and Economic Empowerment for Women 12-week session.

“I had no plans of teaching anyone but my sister knowing my knowledge base decided it was a good idea and drafted me in. I was apprehensive at first as I have never taught anyone in a formal setting, but I took up the challenge. I can say that I am glad I accepted the challenge.

“I have met some fun and amazing women and it has been my privilege to be a part of expanding their knowledge by sharing what I have gained in my many years in the administrative field. The participants are willing and eager to learn and grow their businesses and since they all have small businesses it aligns with my business to help other businesses expand,” she said.

Trotman said that as the organisation celebrates its 44th anniversary she would like to congratulate them for being a pillar in the community.

“Pinelands Creative Workshop is an essential pillar in this nation, and I encourage them to continue for another 44 years and beyond.

  Pinelands Creative Workshop is worth way more than dance. There are so many classes you take which provide you with certification at little or no cost. I encourage any young person to go to Pinelands and learn all that you can,” she said.
