Search turned up gun; ammunition

The illegal gun and ten rounds of ammunition for which a St Michael man was charged were discovered when police executed a search warrant at his house last March.

Crown Counsel Romario Straker made the disclosure in the No. 2 Supreme Court on Tuesday as he outlined the facts in the case against Garendra Alexander Thomas, of Redman’s Road, Deacon’s, St Michael.

Straker said when police asked Thomas to account for the illegal weapon he replied “It’s mine”. However he refused to answer any other questions or give police a statement in relation to the matter. Most of his replies were “no comment”.

Thomas recently pleaded guilty before Justice Randall Worrell to having the illegal gun and ammunition on March 16, 2021.

The convicted man’s attorney-at-law Simon Clarke and the prosecutor will make submissions on sentencing when the case continues on June 10.
