Three hurt in stabbing

A stabbing incident at Palmetto Mall and Market in the City, resulted in three people nursing stab wounds and vendors in the area outraged.

Police spokesman acting Station Sergeant Michael Blackman told Barbados TODAY that lawmen received a call about the incident around 2 p.m.

He said one man was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by ambulance, while the other two persons were taken to the Branford Taitt Polyclinic, Black Rock, St Michael, by a private vehicle.

Vendors and eyewitnesses at the scene told Barbados TODAY they were shocked that the altercation was over a chair.

They claimed that a vendor asked a female, who they said does not work at the mall, to get out of his chair. They said a male who was allegedly with the female got involved and a “noise” started.

“The girl get on bad because the man wanted his chair. But that is his seat and he work up there. Them don’t work up there and they had no right up there because they were not doing nothing in there.

“They attacked the man for no reason. The man wanted his seat and she get vex. The man wanted his chair so he can have his lunch,” an eyewitness who requested anonymity said.

“I was there. Them did beating up the man in his own stall. I still can’t believe that happened,” another eyewitness added.

A vendor who also opted not to give her name, said it was unfair for someone to be attacked on the job, working hard to earn an honest dollar.

“This is nonsense. You come out to work hard and people stabbing you up because you don’t want them to sit in your chair,” the vendor said.

Police are continuing investigations. (AH)
