Tropical wave will bring cloudy skies, showers, possible isolated thunderstorms today

The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to closely monitor the progress of a tropical wave near 42/43W at 5 a.m. or some 1988KM ( 1235miles) east of Barbados.

Meanwhile, a tropical wave along 56W will bring cloudy to overcast skies, showers and possible isolated thunderstorms today here in Barbados, not associated with the system being closely monitored by the Met Office.

The system has become better organized overnight as a burst of deep convection has formed around the center of the system.

Since yesterday’s statement the system has been tracking westward near 15 mph (24km/h) and this general westward to slightly north of westward motion with an increase in forward speed around Monday is expected.

Conditions appear favourable for further development and a tropical depression could form sometime early or by the middle of this week.

Regardless of development, BMS is urging the public to be ready and to remain on the alert for messages from this department and the Department of Emergency Management over this weekend and in particular on Monday.

Marine, excess rainfall, severe thunderstorm and wind alerts remain elevated to yellow level for Tuesday. This means that the public should be aware that there is the possibility of hazardous weather conditions in the next few days.

Overnight, mid-level moisture was sufficient to sustain deep burst of convection near the vortex centered near 8N 42W.

Environmental conditions will continue to improve today, which should help sustain deep convection close to the vortex center. Once deep convection is sustained, continued development of the system is expected.
