Met office advises to prepare for possible rain, wind

Barbadians are bracing for the possibility of adverse weather conditions on Tuesday June 28 due to the potential Tropical Cyclone Two.

A statement issued by the Barbados Meterological Services (BMS) around 5 p.m. today, indicated that the system remains disorganised and convection has been sporadic throughout the day, as the cyclone continues to track westward at 19 miles per hour.

The statement indicated that conditions appear favourable for further slow development and a tropical depression could form during the next few days as the centre tracks south of Barbados.

“Excess rainfall, severe thunderstorms and wind alerts remain elevated to yellow level for tomorrow Tuesday 28 June 2022. This means that the public should be aware that there is the possibility of adverse weather conditions on Tuesday,” the statement read.

The statement further explained that the Hurricane Hunter did not find a closed centre associated with the area of distributed weather, but there was a small area of storm force winds found by the aircraft well to the northwest of where the Tropical Cyclone System was initiated.

Speaking to Barbados TODAY, meteorologist at the (BMS), Tia Browne, advised that all Barbadians be fully prepared for the expected moderate to heavy showers, dusty winds and rough seas.

“Right now the projections are between one to two inches of rainfall. We also have the small craft advisory which remains in effect for above normal sea swells. We are expecting swells between 2.5 to 3 metres, so we are looking at rough sea conditions. Continue to monitor the situation and be aware of all the alerts issued by the Barbados Meteorological Service and the Department of Emergency Management,” Browne said.

The meteorologist explained that the overcast skies over Barbados throughout Monday were not associated with the potential Tropical Cyclone Two. (AH)
