Local News News Weather Small craft advisory in effect Barbados Today28/06/20220279 views A small craft advisory is in effect for Barbados until 6 p.m. today, the Barbados Meteorological Services has said. It said such an advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) and/or reduced visibility (less than 10 km but greater than 5 km) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours. “Significant swell height magnitudes: Moderate to rough in open water with swells ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 meters ( 8 to 10 ft ) are expected particularly along eastern coastlines. Swells are expected to further deteriorate tonight and into tomorrow morning, peaking at 3.5m. “All marine craft operators and beachgoers should note the following possibilities along the coast and near shore, due to the imminent or already occurring marine threat: Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels. Operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells. Some beach erosion is inevitable, especially along eastern coastlines”. (BMS)
