#BTSpeakingOut – Days of Our Lives

by D. Goddard

I once watched a movie called The Illusionist starring Edward Norton and thoroughly enjoyed it. I watched another in the form of a press conference and that too was good theatre. But, now to the real world.

There are reportedly numerous self-employed professionals such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, and the like, whose earnings are difficult to track, and in many cases they do not pay taxes or NIS.

Old news! Handle it!

Government after government has been dipping its hands into NIS funds for projects and other investments, some ill-advised. This has been a burden on the NIS.

Old news! Handle it!

Both DLP and BLP governments have written off millions, perhaps billions, in debt, inclusive of NIS debt, for major companies and entities, some under dubious circumstances.

Old news! Handle it!

When a former Government minister suggested that we needed to make more babies and replenish the population, he was ridiculed. Now current political leaders are resurrecting history about population deficits and their contribution to the downturn in baby-making.

Old news! Handle it!

That movie yesterday was a rerun. We saw it already. We did reviews on it previously. All of it! And the names have not been changed to protect the innocent. We did not need anyone else on that wall. The problems at the NIS were not caused by pensioners, their ages or their volume. The problems at the NIS were caused by the politicians. Now the pensioners must pay.

And while that rehashed episode was running yesterday, I kept wondering when will the sequel to that horror movie called the Auditor General Report be shown? Why aren’t the actors addressing it? Has no one written the script?

So, we have had our distraction, some might call it a filler, I prefer cartoon. Have we all been returned to the age of silent movies when people’s lips are moving but nothing is being said?

Are we now the bit players in a flick where the 30 are them and we the people are the 0 and we are being told: “We have neither the time nor the inclination to explain ourselves to a people who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom that we provide, and then question the manner in which we provide it!”

Thanks, Jack. The end!
