The young woman, whose name had not been disclosed by police up to late Tuesday, was a resident of the nearby Princess Royal Avenue. The incident, which resulted in a heavy police response and drew scores of onlookers as well as distraught family members, was first reported to officers at the Operations Control Room around 4:55 p.m., according to the Barbados Police Services’ Communications and Public Affairs Officer Inspector Rodney Inniss. “On arrival, they were able to confirm a number of persons were injured and, sadly, one individual, a female, has unfortunately died at the scene located at the pavilion,” he told reporters at the scene. Several people were injured in the altercation. Inniss added that the first police unit on the scene witnessed “an altercation between [who] may be considered to be the suspect and another individual who was injured. That person was taken into custody and the other person was treated by ambulance personnel who were summoned and was taken away for medical attention”. Deputy Prime Minister and parliamentary representative for the area, Santia Bradshaw also went to the scene.
